Genocide - Can it happen again?

1. Nuremberg Trials- Nazi leaders were prosecuted for their horrible crimes.
This proved that governments could be held responsible for deeds and every individual had moral responsibilities ( no"just following orders" when it comes to genocide.

2. 1970s Cambodian Genocide
Pol Pot , leader of the Khmer Rouge government there, killed "corrupt foreign influence". However he killed for any reason. He forced people to work on collective farms as Stalin did. The mismanagement of agriculture led to mass starvation. By 1979, 1-3 million were starved or killed.

3. Uganda- Idi Amin (dictator) murdered about 300,000 .

4. In 1983, the UN declared apartheid a form of genocide.

5. America -1500-1865 millions of blacks died as a result of slavery, many Indians were killed or driven off land as well. Japanese forced into relocation camps.

6. Today- Hate groups like KKK , and Nazis march in America. Our Constitution protects their right of free speech.
