Background and Vision
I have been both an assistant and head high school coach, and a college-level assistant coach for over twenty years. I've spent the past 15 years as a high school teacher and currently teach in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District. In the course of my coaching career, I have been fortunate to study and teach with some incredible coaches. This past fall I coached a group of third graders, the youngest age I have coached thus far. The level of raw talent inspired me to consider cultivating a basketball team of young athletes in the AAU 10U Division. This age is ideal for elite basketball instruction at a time in their lives when they are most teachable. For example, second language acquisition is most likely to occur when a child is young (before 12 years) provided they are in an environment that allows meaningful communication in that second language. It is my position that basketball-related muscle memory works in very much the same way. Excellent instruction at this age will develop the proper skill set young athletes need in order to compete at an elite level throughout their youth and beyond. One important point to note is that the law of diminishing returns applies to athletics just as it does to other disciplines such as language acquisition. In other words, there is a finite window of opportunity that exists in which their athletic development can be maximized. This is the ideal time to invest in a significant way in terms of time spent learning the proper skills and perfecting muscle memorization to excel in basketball.

Many basketball club coaches may use the correct basketball jargon or seem to have what appears to be thorough credentials to teach at this level, but that doesn't necessarily translate into top notch instruction. I bring a unique combination of commitment, knowledge, and energy. I invite you to come watch practice and judge for yourself. A basketball teaching observation will be the most effective means of assessing the effectiveness of my coaching methods. Teaching the proper foundation is my primary responsibility. I offer the kind of preparation and effort I expect from the athletes themselves. In addition to our core coaches, we will occasionally bring in other expert coaches and players to share and teach a particular basketball skill.
