Mr. Haskells Adult Education Syllabus
Courses Online
All courses are linked on www.gshaskell.com. Due dates and e-mail information are listed on each courses main page.
PREREQUISITES:
1. Computer Access 3. Personal e-mail address
2. Access to the Internet 4. Course textbook
DETAILS:
1. Type name, e-mail address, date and assignment title in upper right hand corner of all papers. Type appropriate section titles as well.
2. All work posted must be completed and sent by the due date and time listed on the main page. E-mail is automatically date/time stamped when you send your assignment for verification that it was submitted on time.
3. Late assignments are reduced to half credit. During the regular school year, assignments may be submitted late for half credit. Because of the compressed time period during summer school, assignments more than 48 hours late will NOT be accepted and the student will be dropped from the class.
4. It is recommended to save printed hard copies of your work as personal evidence of your accomplished assignments (YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUBMITTING 6 SAMPLES OF WORK BY THE MIDTERM). Please paper clip them together and make sure your name is on them. These cannot be turned in for credit, only for verification that you completed the assignment.
5. Students will use only one e-mail address for the single purpose of submitting their work and communicating with the instructor. This will make communication much more efficient for both the student and the teacher. You may want to set up a separate Yahoo or Hotmail account, or learn how to use your Cox, AOL or Earthlink accounts remotely. This way, if your Internet connection is interrupted, you can send and receive information from another computer using the same e-mail account.
6. A disruption in your Internet connection does NOT excuse a late assignment. You can send your assignments from another location if the need arises, such as public libraries, your schools computer lab, the computer lab at Silverado, a friends computer or even a parents work computer.
PLAGIARISM:
Work that is submitted and is not your own will result in the following disciplinary action. The student will receive a zero on the assignment, a U in citizenship and risks removal from the course. A second time results in automatic removal from the course with a WF. Splitting or sharing assignments with other students is NOT permitted and constitutes plagiarism.
GRADING:
1. Your independent coursework will constitute approximately 50% of your overall grade. The open book midterm is worth approximately 25%, and the final exam is worth approximately 25%.
2. All homework is to be submitted via e-mail to haskellgs@yahoo.com. (Please do NOT attach files unless instructed otherwise.) All work is to be copied and pasted into e-mail! Hard copies of assignments will NOT be accepted or graded for points; all work must be submitted via e-mail.
3. You should be receiving confirmation of your work shortly after you submit it. All grades will be uploaded online through the SVUSD server for your viewing. This would be the same location as the grades for day school. During the semester, you should receive updated grades within 2-3 days after the due date; if the assignment is submitted late, you may not receive this information until the following Monday. During the summer, you should be receiving this information the day following your submitted assignment.
4. All assignments must be completed in full. Incomplete assignments, even those submitted on time, will be considered late {and will not be graded--the entire assignment must be re-submitted in one e-mail for grading, not just the missing work.
GRADING SCALE:
A = 100% - 90%
B = 89.9% - 80%
C = 79.9% - 70%
D = 69.9% - 60%
F = 59.9% or below
ATTENDANCE/ LATE WORK:
1. You have three mandatory class attendance dates: opening of class orientation, midterm, and final exam. Since we have just three meetings, it is mandatory a student attends all three. If a student is ill they must make arrangements with Adult Education to come in for a make up orientation or to take the midterm or final exam ASAP.
2. Weekly assignments must be received (not sent) by the due date (Friday 3PM) specified on the main course page. During the regular school year, assignments may be submitted late for half credit. Because of the compressed time period during summer school, assignments more than 48 hours late will NOT be accepted and the student will be dropped from the class.
INDEPENDENT STUDY HOURS:
This is an independent study course. Therefore your participation by completing the various assignments is crucial. All weekly assignment (and quiz if appropriate) are equivalent to 45 hours of course study. You must submit ALL assignments and have a passing grade in the class to receive credit.
WARNING: If you fail to complete more than two weekly assignments without submitting the work late, you will be dropped from the class. If you submit two assignments late (even though youve completed the work late) you will be dropped from the class.
It is my desire to make this a pleasurable yet relevant way to receive (Health) credit. I hope you all have a positive learning experience.
